1 dead as Pasay trike drivers fight over riders

A man was stabbed dead by one of his fellow tricycle drivers in a fight over passengers in Pasay City on Wednesday morning.

Police said Rey Soriano and Jimmy Villamor were in a queue at their tricycle terminal near the corner of Edsa and Taft Avenue in Barangay 83, when they started arguing over who between them should be the first to take passengers.

Villamor then grabbed an ice pick, stabbed Soriano in his left shoulder, and fled in his tricycle.

Soriano was brought to San Juan de Dios Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Around 10 a.m. on Thursday, Villamor sent surrender feelers to Barangay 83 chair Jimmy Montesa, who led the police to where the suspect was hiding on Hizon Street, Barangay Bangkal, Makati.

Villamor was arrested and remained in detention at the Pasay police station as of press time to face homicide charges. —Dexter Cabalza
