Leviste to be arraigned on June 10

MANILA, Philippines—The Makati Metropolitan Trial Court (MTC) has set the arraignment of Antonio Leviste for evasion of service of sentence on June 10 at 8 a.m.

The proceedings will be conducted in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City, where the former governor of Batangas is serving a sentence of 6-12 years for the fatal shooting of his aide and friend Rafael de las Alas in 2007.

Leviste’s first hearing under Judge Josefino Subia of MTC Branch 66 will be held in a court inside the penitentiary, according to the court clerk, Perlita Ordinario.

The convict has been charged with violating Article 17 of the Revised Penal Code for leaving the NBP without authorization. His driver, Nilo Solis, is included in the case as accomplice.

The two men were arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation in front of the Leviste-owned LPL building in Makati City on May 18.

If Leviste is found guilty of the new charge, six more years will be added to his existing sentence for homicide.
