The Philippine National Police has finally agreed to turn over spot reports of drug-related killings to the Commission on Human Rights (CHR).
In a letter to CHR Chair Jose Luis Martin Gascon, PNP Director General Ronald dela Rosa acceded, in part, to the request by the CHR for the PNP to furnish the rights body with the case records of each drug-related killing.
However, Dela Rosa said the PNP could only provide CHR spot reports of the cases.
The CHR had asked for the latest status of each case, police blotters, spot reports, progress reports, final investigation and accomplishment reports, forensic reports, preliminary investigation, affidavits of arrested officers, and inventories of confiscated items.
“We hope that you understand that majority of the cases are still under investigation and the release of the case records might prejudice, preempt, or jeopardize the investigation being conducted by the respective police stations nationwide. Some of the documents may also contain confidential information which cannot be made public,” Dela Rosa said. —Jaymee T. Gamil
