Ex-cop, pal caught selling guns sourced from New Bilibid Prison
Two men reportedly selling guns smuggled out of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), one of them a policeman who was dismissed from the service for planting evidence, were arrested on Sunday.
Operatives of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested Maurito Reniedo, a former policeman, and Gerry Desoacidos in a buy-bust operation at a KTV bar on F.B. Harrison Street in Pasay City.
CIDG National Capital Region office chief, Senior Supt. Wilson Asueta, said the duo yielded an automatic rifle, a 9mm handgun, a .40-caliber pistol and assorted ammunition. The 9mm pistol was Reniedo’s service firearm.
Asueta added that the suspects sold guns for an inmate at the NBP who was also a dismissed policeman. The guns had been smuggled out of the national penitentiary so that these would not be seized in surprise inspections, he said.
