The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) would give its recommendation this week on whether or not President Rodrigo Duterte should extend martial law in Mindanao, Malacañang said on Monday.

In a media briefing, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque read a statement issued Marine Col. Edgard Arevalo, chief of the AFP Public Affairs Office.

“The AFP is mindful that the extension of martial law implementation ends on 31 December 2017. It is currently in the process of assessment and deliberation as to the recommendation,” Roque said.

The martial rule in the entire southern island was earlier extended up to Dec. 31. /atm
