One dead as low pressure area affects the country—NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines – One person was killed in Aklan as a low pressure area continued to affect parts of the country, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday.

Nemia Cuales, died of a landslide, while Efren Cuales was injured in a landslide in Sitio (sub-village) Bangbang Calizo in Balete, Aklan, it added.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old male identified as Brian Reyes was feared dead after drowning while fishing at a former quarry site located at village La Paz, Bamban in Tarlac Tuesday, according to the NDRRMC. A joint retrieval operation by the police and local rescue teams is still underway.

In Pandang and Busay-Culliat road sections are flooded but are still passable, while in Aklan, the National Highway near Pagsanghan-Venturanza Bridge going to Balete and Balete Bridge are impassable to all types of vehicles due to flooding, the NDRRMC said.

A total of 58 villages were affected by the low pressure area in Capiz and Bicol — 46 in Capiz, 12 in Aklan.

A minor landslide in village Marambong, Pandan in Catanduanes injured one person identified as Gliceria delos Santos, 66.

Latest incidents of landslides in Aklan were cited in the following villages: Balaktasan and Luguhon in Madalag; Manhanip in Malinao; Lapnag in Banga; and the national roads of Panayakan in Tangalan.

As of its latest report, no electric power was cited in six villages in Balete in Aklan: Poblacion, Calizo, Feliciano, Aranas, Cortes and Morales, it also said.

The water level of Angat Dam has also reached its spilling level (3.59m deviation from normal high water level), while Binga Dam opened one gate at 0.3m and Magat Dam opened two gates at 4m, the NDRRMC added.
