Seized firecrackers worth P400T burned

/ 07:45 AM November 16, 2011

COAST Guard officials and Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama burned 1,920 reams of  piccolo firecrackers inside the Philippine Coast Guard compound at Pier 3, Cebu City at 10 a.m yesterday.

To make sure that the seized firecrackers won’t be used anymore, they were first drenched with water before they were set on fire.

The illegal  firecrackers were seized by the Coast Guard at Pier 1 in November last year. They were not immediately destroyed because the Coast Guard waited for the owners to show up,  said Coast Guard Commander Rolando Punzalan.

Rama said he ordered the police to crack down on sellers of banned firecrackers. Correspondent Fe Marie Dumaboc
