Suspected NPA rebels kill Ecija construction site caretaker

CARRANGLAN, NUEVA ECIJA — Armed men believed to be New People’s Army rebels killed the caretaker of a construction firm in Sitio (subvillage) Masagana, Barangay (village) Putlan here on Wednesday morning.

President Duterte is scheduled to visit Nueva Ecija on Wednesday afternoon.

Reports said the armed men also shot at a police vehicle carrying 8 policemen who were responding to the shooting of Sixto Tabon, 44. A policeman jumped off the vehicle and fractured a leg following the 5 a.m. attack, said Senior Supt. Eliseo Tanding, Nueva Ecija police director.

Tabon, a Putlan resident and a caretaker of Halrey Construction, was shot multiple times at about 4 a.m.

An eyewitness saw two men shoot the victim before fleeing towards the mountains just across the road. /je
