The Quezon City police found illegal drugs in two separate locations in Novaliches on Tuesday.
Around 1:30 p.m. in Barangay San Bartolome, officers conducting “Oplan Sita” flagged down Edison Laxamana, 33, who was spotted driving his motorbike with no helmet on.
Instead of slowing down for the checkpoint, however, Laxamana fled and evaded arrest, leading to a brief chase along Rockville Avenue, according to Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director.
Seized from the suspect were four big packets and a small sachet containing suspected “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride), with an estimated market value of P100,000. He faced charges in violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, the Motorcycle Helmet Act and the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
Earlier in the day, police also seized around a kilo of dried marijuana leaves inside an abandoned gray Mitsubishi Mirage along R. Humabon Street in Barangay Santa Lucia.
Police said around 2:30 a.m., officers on patrol noticed the parked vehicle where three unidentified men appeared to be doing a transaction. Upon seeing the approaching policemen, the suspects fled from the vehicle and remained at large as of press time.
The car, which license plate No. AAY 8433, was traced to a certain Mitzi Gay Piol, of Fairview, Quezon City.
The confiscated items were turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), which will pursue the cases against the suspects. /kga
