A mechanical engineer was killed in an ambush by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Binondo, Manila, on Monday night.

The Manila Police District (MPD) said Reynaldo Macapanas, a resident of General Trias, Cavite province, was driving his black Isuzu SUV when shot several times around 7 p.m. behind Delpan Sports Complex on Delpan Street.

A report by PO3 Alden Legaspi of MPD homicide section said the gunmen tailed the victim before shooting him through the glass window, hitting him in the head and body.

The 49-year-old Macapanas lost control of the vehicle, which veered to the sidewalk.

A Quezon City policeman, P01 Rey Orejas, who happened to be passing through the area on his way home, saw the people gathered around the vehicle after the gunmen had fled and brought the victim to Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Recovered from the site were six .45-caliber bullet casings.

The motive for the killing remained under investigation. —Aie Balagtas See
