TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol —  Illegal drugs and improvised bladed weapons were among the contraband seized during a surprise inspection inside the Bohol District Jail (BDJ) in Barangay Cabawan, this city on Monday morning.

The male inmates of the BDJ vacated their dormitories as early as 7 a.m., and gathered at the BDJ grounds as police authorities conducted a surprise inspection of their cells.

The operation led to the confiscation of nine small sachets containing shabu worth P24,000, two small strips that had traces of shabu powder, improvised knives and other bladed weapons, scissors, disposable lighters, and cellular phones.

The operation was conducted by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Bohol, and the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO).

Chief Insp. Felipe Montejo, BDJ warden, said the greyhound is their way of zero tolerance on illegal drugs.

BDJ only has 25 prison cells that could accommodate only 400 inmates. With its 949 detainees, BDJ is already overcrowded.

Most of the inmates are detained at BDJ for drug-related cases. /atm
