SAN PEDRO CITY – Tropical storm “Salome” dumped volumes of rain and triggered floods in parts of Laguna and Cavite provinces, reports from local governments and disaster response agencies revealed.
In Laguna, several families evacuated due to floods since Thursday night.
Data from the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) and the Laguna government showed 25 families, consisting of 103 people, in Los Baños town and four families, comprising 16 people, in Paete town sought shelter in evacuation centers.
Floods were also reported in the 15 villages in Siniloan town, as well as Barangays (villages) Isla and Damayan in Pangil town and Famy town, respectively.
In Calauan town, a landslide hit a section of Barangay Imoc but no casualty was reported.
In Cavite province, Gov. Jesus Crispin Remulla said low-lying areas in Bacoor City were also flooded.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 8:00 a.m. bulletin that Salome has maintained its strength and continues to move towards the West Philippine sea.
The state weather bureau had raised tropical cyclone warning Signal No. 1 over Cavite, Batangas, Bataan, and Zambales. /kga
