‘Salome’ keeps strength; storm signals up in NCR, parts of Luzon

Tropical storm “Salome” has maintained its strength as it crosses Zambales-Bataan, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Friday.

The state weather bureau raised Signal No. 2 over Bataan and Southern Zambales while it placed the rest of Zambales, Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, and northern Occidental Mindoro under Signal No. 1.

Pagasa said moderate to heavy rains are expected in these areas with storm signals.

Salome intensified into a tropical storm late Thursday evening. It has maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 100 kph even as it slightly slowed down at 20 kph west northwest.

Salome was last spotted 55 kilometers southwest of Subic, Zambales, according to Pagasa. /kga
