Storm signal No. 2 was hoisted in Metro Manila, Bataan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and the northern section of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro as Tropical Storm “Salome” maintained its strength early Friday, the state weather agency said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Salome was upgraded from a tropical depression to a tropical storm on Thursday night.
Signal No. 1 remained hoisted in Bulacan, Pampanga, Southern Zambales, Rizal, Camarines Norte, Marinduque, Quezon and the rest of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro.
Pagasa said the center of the tropical storm was last spotted at 75 kilometers west northwest of Ambulong, Batangas at 1 a.m. Friday.
It has maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gusts of up to 110 kph, while moving west northwest at 22 kph.
