Suspected rebel killed, 9 soldiers hurt in Vizcaya clash

FORT MAGSAYSAY, NUEVA ECIJA — A suspected communist rebel was killed while nine Army soldiers were wounded in a Thursday morning clash in Dupax Del Sur town in Nueva Vizcaya.

The identities of the fatality and soldiers injured in the 8:30 a.m. gun battle in Barangay (village) Sanguit have not been released at press time by the Philippine Army’s 7th Infantry Division.

Soldiers of the 84th Infantry Battalion led by Lt.Col. George Bergonia engaged a still undetermined number of armed men in the area.

The soldiers proceeded there following reports about the armed presence in the village. /je
