This yearly ceremony was presided over by His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, with other leaders including president of the senate Say Chhum; president of the National Assembly Heng Samrin; Prime Minister Hun Sen; and many other dignitaries as well as foreign ambassadors.
On the occasion, His Majesty the King laid a wreath at the Independence Monument and lighted a symbol of victory flame which will be kept burning for three days; and after that dozens of white doves and balloons were released.
PM Hun Sen said that November 9 is the historical day that brought the independence, territorial integrity and development to Cambodia, according to the message shared in his Facebook.
The Cambodian people have never ever forgotten the sacrifice of His Majesty the late King-Father Norodom Sihanouk in his royal crusade for national independence, he added.
There will be the display of fireworks in the evening of Nov. 9 and 11 in front of the Royal Palace to mark the event.
Cambodia received full independence from France on Nov. 9, 1953 under the royal leadership of His Majesty the late King-Father Norodom Sihanouk, the father of national independence, territorial integrity and national unity.
