DID YOU KNOW: 105th birth anniversary of Teodoro Agoncillo

Today, Nov. 9, is the 105th birth anniversary of historian Teodoro Agoncillo.

Born in 1912, he obtained his bachelor and masters degrees from the University of the Philippines.

He taught history in UP and chaired its Department of History (1963-69 and 1976-77).

Among his notable works were “The History of the Filipino People,” “Malolos: The Crisis of the Republic” and “Revolt of the Masses.”

Agoncillo died on Jan. 14, 1985 and was posthumously named a National Scientist.

On Nov. 9, 1985,  the National Historical Institute installed a marker at his house on Quezon Boulevard Extension, Quezon City. —Marielle Medina
