Executive branch can defy possible SC ruling favoring Arroyo travel

/ 06:55 PM November 15, 2011

MANILA, Philippines—House Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales on Tuesday said the Executive branch can choose to defy the Supreme Court in case magistrates issue a temporary restraining order against the Department of Justice’s order barring former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo from traveling abroad ostensibly to seek medical treatment for her bone ailment.

But Gonzales said such a move would be a big risk.

Gonzales also said Arroyo could not use emotional issues to bolster her case with the SC because justices have to rule on merit of law.
