MANILA, Philippines—A police chief and his officer were killed after they shot each other while arguing inside the Bayabas Municipal Police Station in Surigao del Sur Monday, Superintendent Martin Gamba, Caraga police spokesperson said on Tuesday.

A misunderstanding about policies in the field led to a shootout that killed both Inspector Edgardo Caballes Dico, Bayabas town police chief, and his subordinate Police Officer 3 Lord Anthony Lerin at around 12:05 p.m., said Gamba.

He said that Dico was armed with an M16 while Lerin used a .45-caliber pistol in the incident.
