The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is looking for two of its mobile patrolmen who reportedly catcalled a woman on Katipunan Avenue last week.
Ironically, the city police is tasked with enforcing the anticatcalling ordinance signed into law by Mayor Herbert Bautista last year. It imposes a fine and a jail term for acts that constitute sexual harassment of women in public spaces.
The victim, 21-year-old Sandy (name changed for security purposes), took to social media to narrate her experience, which, as of this writing, has been liked over 12,000 times.
She said she was walking on Katipunan Avenue in Project 4 around 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 2 when a black police car with “QCPD” markings and its lights flashing stopped in front of her.
According to her, the policeman in the front passenger opened the window “and looked at me like a dog with his mouth open.” The other policeman behind the wheel then wolf-whistled at her.
QCPD director, Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, said they were already investigating the case and checking the global positioning system records of all its police patrol cars, especially those under QCPD Station 8, which has jurisdiction over Katipunan Avenue.
He vowed to sue those concerned, saying these acts “should not be tolerated.”
