Floods hit Aklan

MANILA, Philippines – Heavy rains caused by the low pressure area triggered floods in Aklan on Tuesday, prompting evacuation in at least one town, a police official said.

Superintendent Ranulfo Demiar, Western Visayas regional police operations chief, said the disaster risk management council in Balete town has started evacuation operations.

“Baha dito sa Aklan, halos lahat ng municipality [It’s flooded here in Aklan and almost all municipalities are] affected,” said Police Officer 3 Nida Gregas, provincial police spokesperson.

Gregas, who is among those “trapped” in Barangay (village) Aranas, Balete, said the flooding began around 8 a.m. and was now “chest-deep” in some areas.
