DPWH vehicles ferry Marawi folk home

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has deployed its service vehicles to ferry residents of Marawi City from evacuation centers to their respective homes.

The DPWH district engineering offices in Lanao del Norte and Misamis Oriental deployed 19 service vehicles to bring home 254 residents to their houses in the past three days.

Most of the civilians are returning to their communities in Barangay Loksa Datu, Barrio Green, Poblacion, East Basak, Matampay and Tampilong in Marawi City.

In a statement, the DPWH said the transport of residents was done in coordination with other government agencies that also helped bring home the evacuees.

Citing records from the Marawi City government, the DPWH said 4,724 families or 23,859 individuals are expected to return to nine barangays.

These are evacuees who fled Marawi City during the five-month clashes between government troops and the Maute terrorist group and sought shelter in Iligan City and neighboring towns.

The DPWH is fast-tracking the construction of the road network within the relocation area and transitional shelters in Barangay Sagonsongan, Marawi City.
