The Manila Police District (MPD) has tightened its security around the vicinity of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) as the annual bar examinations start on Sunday, a police official said Saturday.
In a message to the media, MPD spokesperson Supt. Edwin Margarejo said 700 policemen would be deployed around the university’s premises in all Sundays of November to ensure safety of every participant as well as to provide security in the area.
The police forces would be deployed as early as 4 a.m. while closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) area always operational in all corners of UST to monitor any untoward incidents, Margarejo said.
“Covert security will also be deployed in the school premises,” he added, meaning plainclothes policemen will be on patrol inside the school campus.
The MPD has also instructed its health service department to set up booths in order for its medical personnel to provide assistance in case of emergencies.
Margarejo reminded all bar examinees and all other attendees that setting up tents, posting tarpaulins, drinking alcohol, and playing loud music are prohibited within the vicinity during the conduct of bar exams.

Police personnel would strictly implement the rules, the official said.
A total of 7,227 aspiring lawyers are set to take the bar exams in all Sundays of the month, or until November 26. /jpv
