QC court denies bail to 2 suspects in racing champ’s murder
A Quezon City judge has denied the petition for bail of two suspects in the murder of champion car racer Ferdinand “Enzo” Pastor, saying the evidence against them was strong.
In an order dated Oct. 27, Judge Juris Dilinila-Callanta of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 85 junked the petitions of PO2 Edgar Angel and businessman Domingo “Sandy” de Guzman.
“To the court’s mind,… the prosecution was able to present credible evidence … indicating the guilt of accused [Angel and De Guzman] is strong, as they appear to have conspired and confederated with one another, together with Dalia Pastor, to kill Enzo Pastor,” Callanta said.
Dalia Guerrero-Pastor, the victim’s estranged wife, has been indicted for parricide. She remains at large after leaving the country shortly after her husband was shot dead in June 2014.
Self-confessed hitman Alvin Nidua had told the court that Dalia tried to hire him to kill her husband in May but he refused. He identified Angel as his replacement.
Another witness, Paolo Salazar, who was with Pastor when he was killed, also positively identified Angel as the shooter.
