Mindoro boat trips cancelled due to ‘Ramil’

CITY OF CALAPAN— All boat trips connecting Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro have been cancelled since Wednesday morning after the weather bureau raised typhoon signal number 1 over the provinces as Tropical Depression “Ramil” dumped rains over Southern Luzon since Monday night.

Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Calapan division manager Leo Romero said boat trips from Caticlan to Roxas in Oriental Mindoro, and Batangas to Abra de Ilog in Occidental Mindoro, are included in the cancellation. There are no reports of stranded passengers as of Wednesday.

“Starting tomorrow, Nov. 2 until Nov. 6, the ‘no booking’ policy will be strictly implemented at Calapan port. There are numbers (for passengers) that can be secured at Cinco in Barangay Sta. Isabel with Calapan police as in-charge (authorities),” said Romero. He added that boat trips will automatically resume once storm signals were lifted.

Nelson Aboboto, head of the Calapan City’s Public Safety Department, said the scheme involving numbers for would-be passengers, among others, is intended to avoid a long queu of vehicles that cause traffic, as well as the “palakasan” (special privilege) system that may lead to conflicts. /jpv
