3 heavy equipment torched in Leyte town

CARIGARA, Leyte – Unidentified persons torched three heavy equipment worth P4.4 million parked along the national highway in Barangay Tangnan, Carigara town in Leyte province on Thursday morning.

Chief Insp. Eriprando Castila, Carigara police chief, said the asphalt paver, road roller and pneumatic roller were owned by Edgar Chu of BM Construction base in Tacloban City.

PO2 Federico Canuda, Carigara police case investigator, said the vehicles were parked along the shoulder of the highway in Tangnan, which was near the BM Construction’s barracks.

While the construction workers were sleeping past 3 a.m., unidentified persons torched the heavy equipment that were being used in the road asphalting project of the municipality.

No was reported hurt.

Judito Latorino, BM Construction security officer, said three unidentified men were seen riding a motorcycle after torching one of the heavy equipment. The blaze, however, spread to the two vehicles that were parked alongside.

He said the perpetrators were armed.
