JUAN ANTONIO Carcel of AUTS Racing returned in triumphant fashion to the race track that he grew up in as he won the Formula SL Expert and the overall crown in the 8th leg of the 2011 Kartzone Karting Series over at the Kartzone Race Track in barangay Panagdait over the weekend.
Carcel was supposed to strut his stuff over in Clark, Pampanga for an international race. But due to bad weather, that event was cancelled.
As fate would have it, Carcel and his younger sister Kali found themselves back in the track that started their respective careers.
The 3rd-year high school student by way of PAREF Springdale did not disappoint as he took pole position during the qualifying heats and then lorded over the rest of the field in the 1st and 2nd heats.
With veteran and skilled drivers such as Peterson Lim, Daniel Miranda and Joseph Rojo all behind him at the grid, Carcel delivered a masterful start as he pushed the pedal to the metal and gained the best lap time of the entire weekend at 27.274 seconds.
He did that consistently for five laps which helped him pull away and won by 3.811 seconds over Lim. Daniel Miranda came in third while Jette Calderon finished in fourth place.
Kali Carcel, on the other hand, finished third in the Novice division. Correspondent Jonas Panerio
