Typhoon “Paolo” (international name: Lan) is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Saturday afternoon up to Sunday morning, the state weather bureau said on Friday.
In its 24-hour public weather forecast issued at 4 p.m. on Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the typhoon was last spotted 840 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes.
The weather bureau said the typhoon intensified from 120 kilometers per hour to 140 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 180 kph. It was expected to head toward Japan.
Meno Mendoza, weather specialist, said that it was forecast to move north-northeast at 17 kph, as it exits PAR over the weekend.
Due to the typhoon, Pagasa warned of possible flooding and landslides caused by light to moderate with occasionally heavy rains across the Visayas, Bicol region, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the provinces of Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.
