CAAP declares resumption of night flights in Legazpi airport

LEGAZPI CITY – Night flights to Legazpi Domestic Airport have resumed on Thursday after technicians of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) finished repairs on the runway threshold indicator lights (RTIL) damaged by a lightning bolt that hit the airport last Friday, Erick Apolonio, CAAP spokesperson, said in a text message.

Apolonio, quoting a report from Cynthia Tumanut, CAAP Legazpi chief, said the team of technicians were able to make the immediate repairs to the wires and facilities destroyed by the lightning bolt.

The damage at the RITL prompted the CAAP to suspend night flights operations since Saturday, advising airlines with daily flights from Manila-Legazpi-Manila routes to limit their flight operations during the daytime.

After the repairs were completed, an advisory of the resumption of night flights was issued to airlines servicing the Legazpi Domestic airport, Apolonio said.

Two of the eight flights of the Cebu Pacific airbus planes with routes Manila-Legazpi-Manila could now resume their night flights operations. /je
