DAGUPAN CITY — A welder was killed while five others were injured on Tuesday when a passenger jeepney crashed into a waiting shed in Barangay Bonuan Gueset here, according to Supt. Franklin Ortiz, city police chief.

Alfredo Paulino, 45, died on the way to a hospital after rescuers pulled him and four other passengers out from the jeepney, which tipped over after the impact.

Ortiz said that the jeepney was about to overtake another vehicle at about 4:30 a.m. when its steering wheel malfunctioned. The jeep ran straight into the concrete shed.

Injured were JO1 Salvador Brumuela, 32, who was on his way to work at the Bureau of Jail and Penology jail here; Lelia Bambakan, 71; Haide Dawana, 53; Charisma Libutan, 34; and jeepney driver Jimmy Lacad, 49, who, police said, remained unconscious in a hospital. /je
