9-year-old boy with aggressive form of cancer in need of financial help

APOG

Last year, doctors at Philippine Children’s Medical Center in Quezon City diagnosed 9-year-old Miguel Apog as a high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia patient.

“He was given a high-protocol dosage. He is given double the amount of medicine required under normal conditions because the cancer cells in his body are very aggressive,” Miguel’s mother, Elvie Apog, told the Inquirer.

A few months ago, Miguel suffered a relapse as he was not responding to treatment, prompting his doctors to switch from oral medication to injections.

Based on the results of his blood tests, Miguel goes to the hospital two to three times a week for treatment, Elvie said. She is originally from Bohol province but they have moved to Makati City to make it easier for Miguel to go to the hospital. Only her husband, who is a construction worker, remains in Bohol.

Doctors said that Miguel must undergo 14 chemotherapy sessions over three years. He has completed just two sessions. The family spends P16,847 per session.

“He always asks me when he will be healed. His wish is for his life to go back to normal so that we can go home to Bohol. I’m praying your readers will be able to help us,” said Elvie who can be reached at 0975-9278670. Those who wish to help Miguel can deposit their donations in her BPI account (Elvie Apog, account #9679090507).
