This Week’s Festivals: Oct. 15-21, 2017
The festival in Talisay City, Cebu province pays homage to its patron Sta. Teresa de Avila, as Halad is a Cebuano term for offering of gratitude and praise. Locals offer to the patron saint the city’s popular products such as the “inasal” lechon.
Locals highlight the history and culture of Sorsogon province with the reenactment of the first Mass in Luzon, supposedly held in Barangay Siuton in the town of Magallanes. Other events include the Pantomina, a street dance presentation that mimics the courtship of doves. Kasanggayahan is a Bicolano word that means happiness, prosperity or beauty.
The major agricultural product of the town of Tubod in Lanao del Norte province is showcased in the annual festival. Over 50 varieties of banana are presented in a series of activities, including a street dancing competition, beauty pageant and agricultural fair.
