Tropical Storm “Odette” grew stronger after slamming Cagayan, the state weather bureau said Friday.
It packed maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 100 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Odette made landfall over Sta. Ana, Cagayan at 12:40 a.m.
Signal No. 2 was raised over Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan group of islands, Apayao and Ilocos Norte.
Isabela, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Benguet were placed under Signal No. 1.
Odette was last observed in the vicinity of Allacapan, Cagayan. It moved westward at 24 kph and may exit the Philippine area of responsibility Friday evening or early Saturday.
Moderate to heavy rains are seen over Cagayan, Central Luzon and Ilocos region because of the storm. /idl
