TARLAC CITY — A police trainee was killed on Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a commuter bus along the McArthur Highway, police said.
The motorcycle driven by PO1 John Michael Guerrero, 27, was struck by a VEH 2 SUN TRANS bus at 1:30 p.m. along Sta. Cruz village.
Pinned to the bus’s front bumper, Guerrero was dragged for about 50 kilometers before he was rushed by rescuers to the Tarlac Provincial Hospital.
Guerrero was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physician Dr. William Jae Balenton.
Bus driver Rowen Yumul, 44, and an unidentified bus conductor, disappeared after the accident, but the police caught Yumul at his residence here. Yumul was brought to the police station, accompanied by his family.
Rusi was traveling to Gerona town where he is undergoing training at the Gerona police station. The bus, unit number 0214 and registered to the Cher Transport Corporation based in Muntinlupa City, was bound for Pasay City.
In 2015, Guerrero passed the licensure examination for teachers and the National Police Commission examination on same year. He decided to join the police force.
“Someday I will also be a policeman to take the place of my father,” said the victim’s 6-year-old son, John Khean, at Guerrero’s wake. /je
