CHARGED FOR CUTTING TREES
CHARGES were filed in court against three persons for cutting down trees in barangay Manipis, Talisay City.
Rosalia Galopo, Fernan Galopo, and Leovigildo Togonon were accused of violating Presidential Decree 705 or the Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines.
Bail was recommended at P12,000 each.
Talisay City Assistant Prosecutor Floralil Lucero-Albert found probable cause to indict the three accused who allegedly cut down 24 pieces of Teak trees last Jan. 25.
The trees were valued at P9,579.60.
The trees were allegedly cut and sawn into pieces of lumber to be used to construct the house of Rosalia and her son Fernan.
Togonon, for his part, admitted Rosalia sought his permission to cut down trees in the area.
He said there was nothing illegal in cutting down trees since Rosalia is a member of the Community Based Forest Management Strategy which is allegedly entitled to some incentives.
One of the privileges, he said, is to utilize the resources that Rosalia managed and developed within her area.
However, the prosecutor found sufficient basis to elevate the case to the court which shall conduct a full-blown trial against the accused./REPORTER ADOR VINCENT S. MAYOL
