The Commission on Appointments (CA) confirmed on Wednesday the appointment of retired military general Roy Cimatu as Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

In recommending the approval of his appointment, Senator Manny Pacquiao, chair of the CA’s committee on environment and natural resources, said Cimatu was the “most fitting and best qualified” for the agency’s highest post due to his stellar achievements in his 37-year military career.

“It is with great pleasure and honor to report to the commission, to the President, men and women of DENR and the whole nation of the overwhelming ‘yes’ votes of the members of this commission, confirming and affirming the ad interim appoint of [Cimatu],” Pacquiao said.

Senator Loren Legarda manifested her support for Cimatu’s confirmation, saying that the country needed the might of a general to address the various environmental problems facing the country.

“I give my full support to the very accomplished general heading the DENR,” she said.   /kga
