Suspects in killing of Puerto Galera councilor, son nabbed

CITY OF CALAPAN – Suspects in the killing of a Puerto Galera councilor and his son were arrested in San Teodoro town in Oriental Mindoro just beyond midnight Wednesday, police said.

Melchor Arago and his 15-year-old son Kenneth were shot to death Tuesday inside their house in Barangay Tabinay by two men who came on board a motorcycle.

Regional information officer Supt. Imelda Tolentino said suspects Tirso Manlangit Tito, 39, and Rogelio Sotto Sto. Tomas, 47, both from Lipa City in Batangas province, were arrested at a police checkpoint in Barangay Poblacion at 12:30 a.m.

They were identified by a witness who was collecting bottles and scrap metal in front of the house of the victims at the time of the shooting.

Tolentino said police were still investigating the motive of the killing.

Puerto Galera Vice Gov. Humerlito Dolor, said the Sangguniang Panlalawigan would also conduct a separate investigation on the killings. /cbb
