Unidentified gunmen on motorbikes killed a Chinese-Filipino man in an ambush in Pasay City early Sunday morning.
The victim identified as Wu Zhizhu, a 53-year-old resident of Binondo, Manila, was pronounced dead at the hospital at 3:20 a.m. after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds in the body, the Pasay police said.
Senior Supt. Dionisio Bartolome, the Pasay police chief, said Wu was driving his white Toyota Previa on Roxas Boulevard coming from Parañaque City around 2 a.m. when ambushed at the corner of Edsa Extension.
Five gunmen on three motorcycles tailed him and later fired at Wu through the windows. Losing control, the vehicle crashed into a post on the Roxas Boulevard flyover.
Investigators recovered 25 bullet casings from the scene.
A witness said Wu had just dropped off a passenger along the boulevard before the attack.
The attackers did not take any valuables from the victim, Bartolome said.
The police recovered a casino VIP card from Wu, but it remained under investigation whether the killing was connected to Wu’s gambling. —Dexter Cabalza
