Group asks SC: review TRO vs Iloilo project

A consumer advocacy group had asked Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez of the Supreme Court to review the temporary restraining order (TRO) issued by a Quezon City court against a multimillion-peso irrigation project in Iloilo province.

In a letter on Sept. 25, the Institute for Consumer Research and Empowerment (Icer) said the completion of the Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project Stage II had been disrupted by a TRO issued by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 84 on Oct. 25, 2016.

In a statement, Icer chair Raymundo Junia said the court action “is alarming to us.” He said “further delay” of the project would “deprive” the people of Iloilo and the country as a whole of the benefits that the project would bring.

Icer said the court TRO could lead to the cancellation of the project funded by the Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund-Korea Eximbank.
