SAN PEDRO CITY — A private plane reportedly crashed into the sea in Romblon province Monday morning.
Felix Ylagan, a member of the Romblon provincial board, said the five-seater private plane crashed off the shores in the vicinity of Barangay (village) Binongan in San Agustin town around 9 a.m.
Ylagan reported inclement weather in the island province Monday that commercial flights and classes were suspended.
It was not yet clear how many people were onboard the plane but Ylagan said they have yet to find any survivor.
Romblon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management officer Antonio Sarzona said villagers reported seeing the plane crash then sank deep into the water. The crash site is said to be “too far” from the shore.
Romblon police director Sr. Supt Leo Quevedo, however, said investigators are still in the area but have yet to locate the aircraft.
“We still couldn’t find an oil spill,” he said.
He said they checked with the aviation authorities in Aklan province, the closest airport to Romblon, but records showed that there was no airplane that left Aklan supposedly around the time of the crash.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines have yet to issue confirmation regarding the crash.
