THE Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in Mactan said typhoon Chedeng is moving towards Eastern Samar and is not likely to affect Cebu.
Weather observer Ella Kumahig said Cebu will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers, but these won’t be heavy.
“Still, we should not be complacent. We should remain prepared,” Kumahig said, adding that many areas especially in the southern Cebu are prone to landslides.
Chedeng was spotted 310 km east of Catarman, Northern Samar, as of yesterday.
According to Pagasa, Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas will experience rains and gusty winds while Mindanao and the rest of Visayas will experience rains.
The rest of Luzon will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds will prevail over Central Luzon and Mindanao and the rest of Visayas. Coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.
The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) is set to activate its command centers in all areas in Chedeng’s path 24 hours before the estimated landfall of the typhoon.
This is to minimize the impact of the typhoon on NGCP operational and facilities.
The monitoring of typhoon Chedeng using NGCP’s Enterprise Geographic Information System Mapviewer has begun and all maintenance work will be suspended at least 48 hours before the typhoon makes a landfall.
NGCP is implementing contingency measures to ensure the availability of telecommunication facilities, equipment, tools and vehicles at all times while the typhoon is within the Philippine area of responsibility.
