Catanduanes, a subprovince of Albay, became a separate province by virtue of Commonwealth Act No. 687. The town of Virac became its capital. Catanduanes is previously known as “Catanduan” or “where ‘tando’ trees abound.” Its population in 2015 was 260,964.
Sept. 29, 1898
The Malolos Congress ratified the Declaration of Independence that was proclaimed in Kawit, Cavite province, on June 12, 1898. El Horado de la Revolucion, the official publication of the Malolos Congress, released its first issue on the same day. The paper published decrees, proclamations and accounts of the Congress’ proceedings.
