Ecija village chief, accomplice nabbed for drugs

TALAVERA, NUEVA ECIJA—A village chief and his alleged accomplice were arrested in a drug bust at 8:30 pm on Friday here (Sept. 22).

Minabuyoc village chair Ruben Beltran, 52, and Ronnel Roxas, 27, were caught with eight sachets of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) by undercover policemen in Beltran’s own barangay, said Senior Supt. Antonio Yarra, Nueva Ecija police director.

The police also recovered an M16 assault rifle from the village chief.

The suspects are facing criminal charges of drug trafficking and illegal possession of firearms. /jpv
