SAN PEDRO CITY—Heavy rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon flooded towns in Occidental Mindoro and caused a landslide in Romblon province.
The heavy downpour caused the Amnay River in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro to overflow and flood the villages of El Vita and Claudio Salgado around 10 a.m. Saturday, a report from the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) in Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan (MIMAROPA) said.
Around 82 families or 408 individuals also evacuated due to the floods in the villages of Ibud, Sto. Niño, Buenavista, San Vicente, and Poblacion all in Sablayan on Friday evening.
DRRMC regional director Eugene Cabrera on Saturday afternoon said the water began to subside but some of the families have yet to return to their homes.
In Romblon, a landslide occured in Barangay Poblacion in Alcantara town around 10 p.m. Friday. a house in Barangay Lawan was also partially damaged due to flashflood.
No one was reported hurt in the incident. /jpv
