A Chinese man is earning the ire of netizens worldwide after being filmed pulling out dogs’ vocal cords in an attempt to stop them from barking.

According to a Metro.co.uk report, a man only classified as Zheng, has been conducting the horrifying procedure in the streets of Qingbaijiang District in Chengdu.

A video of Zheng, who claims to be a licensed veterinarian, was spread online as he was seen cutting the throats of dogs and slicing their vocal cords, with the help of an assistant.

The operation, which was often done in broad daylight, left the poor canines with a muted bark.

Surprisingly, many pet owners actually availed is services which cost somewhere between £5 to £11 (P345 to P758).

The dogs were awake during the brutal procedure and were anaesthetized with a shot to one of their legs leaving them motionless, the report said.

Aside from the obvious morality concerns, netizens also noticed a lack of apparent sanitation, as Zheng appeared to use the same tools on all his subjects.

As of writing, Zheng’s tools has been confiscated by authorities and is now under investigation.

He claims to have learned the method in a pet shop in the past and does not appear to see the surgery as brutal or cruel. Khristian Ibarrola
