The Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) vowed on Tuesday to help in the investigation of Aegis Juris, an “influential” fraternity, which was tagged in the death of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) freshman law student Horacio Castillo III.
“Kailangan ng support para masustain tong kasong ito dahil alam natin na later on maggagapangan ito because of the involvement ng malaking organization, yung fraternity nila,” VACC spokesperson Bong Evangelista said at the wake of Castillo.
Asked about the possibility that the fraternity would influence the investigation of the case, Evangelista said: “High percentage posible po yun kasi nga mga involved na personalities dito mga infuential.”
Even though Castillo’s parents, Carmina and Horacio Jr., had already hired a lawyer, Evangelista said VACC’s volunteer lawyers would be ready to assist to the case.
He also added that the VACC would monitor the investigation.
On Sunday, Castillo was found dead on a sidewalk in Tondo, Manila. A certain John Paul Blanco, who happened to be in the area, saw his body and took him to the Chinese General Hospital.
The Manila Police District and Castillo’s parents believe that the 22-year-old freshman law student got his severe injuries from hazing conducted by fraternity members.
“I want justice for my son,” Castillo’s mother said. “He does not deserve this.” /atm
