“PUT up cameras in all the major ports in Central Visayas.”
Senior Supt. Louie Oppus, deputy director for operations of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas, presented this proposal to the Regional Peace and Order Council in Central Visayas (PROC-7) last Friday.
Oppus made a motion before the RPOC-7 officials to make a study on this matter.
Oppus told RPOC-7 officials that aim of putting up these cameras would be to take a photo of any person who would enter and leave the port.
He said this had been practiced in some countries like the United States for its security.
This will help authorities track any illegal entry of criminals or the escape of those wanted by law.
RPOC-7 headed by its chairman, Bohol Gov. Edgar Chato, agreed to form a technical working group to study Oppus’ proposal.
The group will be made up of law enforcement and national agencies like PRO-7, Philippine Coast Guard, Maritime Industry Authority, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and Philippine Ports Authority.
It will also include local counterparts like the Cebu Ports Authority and the representatives from the local government units.
Owners of shipping companies and the airline industry will also be included.
Meanwhile, other resolutions included and passed during the RPOC-7 meeting in Bohol Tropics was the request to the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) for the inclusion of other programs and projects for sustainability of efforts in peace and development. /Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
