Makati public school students shine in math tilt

Ten students from Makati public schools won several medals, including a gold, at an international math competition.

Grade 3 student Justine Mae Vito Cruz of Bangkal Elementary School-Main took home a gold medal after besting hundreds of students at the 2017 International Mathematics Open for Young Achievers (IMOYA) held in Singapore.

The city’s public schools delegation also won four silver and five bronze medals at the competition held from Sept. 1 to 4. Overall, the Philippine team took home 32 gold, 75 silvers and 166 bronze medals.

The silver medalists were Grade 7 students Ma. Angelica Marquez, Cedric Gabriel Evasco and Chryss Anika Bersabal, all from Makati Science High School; and Juwan Emmanuelle Osama, a Grade 5 student of Jose Rizal Elementary School.

Bronze medalists were Grade 7 students Lheiza Jhoy Caro and Gabrielle Leonard Cuadra (Makati Science HS); and Grade 5 students Ron Aldwyn Abustan (Fort Bonifacio ES), Allan Dave Pabillano (Comembo ES) and Jameiah Marielle Prayco (F. Benitez ES-Main).
