Village chief shot dead during police ops in Samar

ORMOC CITY, Leyte—A village chief in San Jorge town, Samar, was killed in a shootout with policemen about 9:35 a.m. on Thursday in Barangay Bulao, in San Jorge, Samar some 241 kilometer  from this city.

The fatality was identified as Louie Nening, who was in the list of drug personalities in San Jorge, acting San Jorge police chief, Senior Insp. Miguelito Bocade, said.

Initial police investigation showed that an undercover policeman bought a sachet of shabu from the suspect.

When he recognized that his buyer was a policeman, Nening drew his gun. But the members of the operating team were able to shoot at him first.

Seized from Nening were two spent shells of M16 rifle, one fired cartridge case of caliber 45 pistol, one P500 bill used as marked money and two small plastic sachets containing shabu.  /jpv
