Some 140 netters will vie in today’s MILO Junior Tennis Cup Visayas leg for a chance to compete in the tournament’s national finals in Manila this August.
However, winners in the national finals in the 14-under, 12-under and 10-under categories will no longer comprise the Milo RP tennis team, which is supposed to see action in the Malaysia Northern States International Junior Tennis Championships after Nestle declined to sponsor a team this year.
Coach Jovy Mamawal, who has been organizing the MILO tennis programs since 1988, said winners still has an option to join the Malaysian tournament, if they can afford the trip. H advised those planning to join the Malysian event to inform him as meet organizers there rely on his referral.
This is what Arthur Craig “Igi” Diaz Pantino plans to do as he starts defense of his 10-under title in the tournament, which will run until Sunday.
Pantino will also be vying in the 12-under category instead of the 14-under class.
The MILO tournament is organized by the Children’s Tennis Workshop in coordination with the Cebu International Tennis Centre Inc. (CITCI ), which had rehabilitated the Consolacion Tennis Courts.
Other categories to be contested are boys and girls 18-under and 16-under.
